About Hired Geeks
For 12 years, the Hired Geeks were a staple in the midwest ska and experimental rock scenes, intriguing audiences with their offbeat rhythms, key changes, and unorthodox yet catchy songwriting. Hired Geeks formed in the fall of 2000, with many of the members working together as early as 1995. They intricately blended touches of jazz, metal, progressive, funk, new wave and reggae; and applied classical-modern musical ideas such as polytonalism and polyrhythmics to rock and ska.
Touring extensively throughout the midwest and into the east coast, Hired Geeks shared the stage with national acts such as Les Claypool, Mindless Self Indulgence and Tub Ring, as well as ska legends The Toasters, Mustard Plug, and The Skatalites. Hired Geeks played in the first and second “Ska Is Dead” tours (with Catch 22, Mustard Plug, Big D & the Kids Table, The Planet Smashers, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Streetlight Manifesto, and MU330), and performed at the renowned annual ska fest “Skappleton” for 7 years in a row. In 2006, the Geeks teamed up in the studio with former Toasters and Pilfers front man Coolie Ranx for single entitled “Schwipe.” In 2009, Rob Kleiner (Cee Lo Green, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Sia) produced the Geeks’ single “Here We Are”.
